During the morning round, I overheard the jet flying over sky of KL.

It’s Merdeka day and National Parade day is undergoing not far from the hospital.

I really proud of myself for able to serve my country. The current politics scene may be a chaotic scenes, but,  it’s a peaceful country.

Everyone is doing their part for their country. And I playing doctor!!!!

What are a bunch of people from different place and social status (except chronic illnesses) are put together for a morning?

Well, they started to social networking. They’re discuss and share their values, their believes and their problems.

I just realised, afterall, visiting a clinic do broaden one circle of friends. Every few months, they can meet new people and talk to new group of people.

Not once, but the patients were amazed by the doctors in the ward. They’re noted their doctors were in the hospital day and night.

I felt happy and  kind of funny feeling whenever a patient ask how long we been in the hospital. As usual, i said we stay for on-call and after the call, we continued to work the next days.

Most of the patients are amazed.

Now, back to the issues which recently raised by some doctors.

As a houseman, you’re get  paid RM100 per call. I not really questioned the pay until I read the article that sitting in the clinic for 4 hrs can earned up to Rm320, wow that’s a lot and a big bargain, consider one need not sacrificed their sleep and just see patients for 4 hrs.

Anyway, just hope we got more allowance for the calls and thus more motivated lah…..

Well, I will have my first MO call coming Sunday…………wish me luck

I “celebrate” the month of August by watching a movie called “August Rush”. A fairly entertaining movie with a lot of good music.

1st Of August also marked the first day of 7th month of lunar calendar. Among the Chinese, especially Malaysian , Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan (China had break the  taboo) perceived the 7th month as month of hungry ghost, which many believe the gate of hell is open, the “good brothers” (* ghosts) are free looming for 1 month.

So, there are a lot of praying and burning “hell money”. Despite the date, 08/08/08, not many couples intended to get marry on this day. Except the communist China, who many of the traditional believes had been uprooted, celebrate the opening ceremony of the Olympics game.

Back home, my favourite China-press news daily, had the headline on  multi-vehicle collision accident, marking the beginning of a hungry-ghost-bad-month.

I like PBL.

It’s fun. It comprises of 2 sessions. One is to identify the key points of a topic or scenario given and the second session is the discussion of various points.

For example, a 55 year old man, a smoker, complains of severe left side chest pain.

From this very brief scenario, we can determine identify the problem of a man suffered from heart attack. So, identify the pathogenesis behind the illness. The anatomy involved, in this case, major blood vessel of a heart. RIsk factors for MI such as smoking and family history and so forth. What are the differential diagnosis? Cardiac Markers? What are the treatment for MI?

In fact, the same scenario can be used by a 2nd year pre-clinical  student, which focus on the anatomy, biochemistry, pathology of the disease. The fourth year students can focus on diagnosis and management of MI and so forth.

Then came to this part, the search for the various topics are usually divides to the members.

Internet is a good source for information. Emedicine and wikipedia can easily be the number 1 choice. Journals like BMJ, a good source.

But beware, some members may be a sleeping partners. The internet provided a source for cut and paste activities.
